Springtime is for giving and receiving
Edible Brattleboro's 2nd Annual Tree Giveaway/Lottery
Are you a gardener? You've been poring over seed catalogs and planning your garden. Now that spring is upon us, you're ready to get started. Edible Brattleboro wants to help by offering you the opportunity to participate in our Tree Giveaway/Lottery and then share your bounty with others.
Edible Brattleboro volunteers have addressed food security by providing free access to healthy vegetables and fruit at a growing number of help-yourself garden sites, a weekly Share the Harvest stand, and free educational experiences centered on growing, preparing, and preserving food.
With funding from Vermont Garden Network and local donors, Edible Brattleboro has purchased a variety of bare-root fruit trees and berry bushes to give away to local residents who will provide care for the plants, and display a sign inviting passers-by to help themselves to the bounty. Brattleboro residents who wish to be considered for this "Tree Giveaway/Lottery" can apply online at https://bit.ly/EB_TreeGiveaway. The deadline for submitting an application is April 2.
Given the high rate of food insecurity in Vermont, this year we are also piloting a grow-a-row program, requesting that gardeners consider reserving some space in their gardens to grow veggies to share with our community at our Share the Harvest stand or FoodWorks. We will also host plant and seed swaps.
