S.Lee Manning (Sandy) will talk about her writing process, the nature of thrillers versus mysteries, and being a stand-up comic.
S. Lee Manning spent two years as managing editor of Law Enforcement Communications before realizing that lawyers make a lot more money. A subsequent career as an attorney spanned from a first-tier New York law firm to solo practice. Her experience includes work leading to the abolition of the death penalty in New Jersey.
An award winning writer, Manning is the author of international thrillers. Her life-long interests in Russia and espionage are reflected in her Kolya Petrov thrillers. Her multi-award winning first novel, Trojan Horse, debuted on October 16, 2020. Her second title, Nerve Attack was launched on September 22, 2021. Bloody Soil, launched November 9 of this year.
Manning also began performing as a stand-up comic after taking a class at the Vermont Comedy Club. In 2019, she was a semi-finalist in the Vermont's Funniest Comedian contest. In August 2022, she performed stand-up at Killer Nashville.
Manning lives in Vermont with her husband and fellow author, J.B. Manning, and their very vocal cat Xiao, but frequently visits her daughter Jenny in California and her son Dean in New Jersey.
Her talks have been well received at other libraries in Vermont. We look forward to hosting her. Some comments below:
We hosted Sandy...her background , research and discussion was very interesting!
We had S.Lee Manning visit for our mystery book group. It was an engaging conversation about the difference between mysteries and thrillers and her interest in Eastern Europe. The discussion left us all thinking and talking!
Last night we hosted S.Lee Manning for an author talk. She has two books published by Encircle Publications. They are page-turning spy thrillers. In her life before writing, she was a lawyer. I have read both her books and really enjoyed them. The main character, Kolya Petrov, was born in Russia, then came to the US. A US spy agency nabbed him. Very timely for discussions about Russia and Ukraine.
Sandy was highly engaging. The attendees were full of questions. It was really a great night!
