Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network (CASAN)
Wow! In the past months, the families we assist have experienced incredible progress and joys, as well as very disappointing legal and bureaucratic delays. It was even busier time as we helped transition several unexpected households on their journeys.
Our non-profit volunteer group assists local families who are in the legal process of seeking asylum. Asylum seekers, unlike refugees, are not allowed to receive many kinds of government assistance, nor are they are allowed to work until reaching a certain point in the asylum process. Hence the need for support from others in the community. There are so many people who need this kind of assistance, and we hope to expand this circle of care.
You are invited to the quarterly update of the Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network (CASAN). Mark your calendar for Wednesday October 12 from 7:00-8:00pm via Zoom. Spoiler alert: you'll hear inspiring stories of these resilient people, and learn about work permits, Immigration Court hearings, and current needs including a low-cost or donated car to get to new jobs. You'll also hear about the wide range of volunteer work being done, and practical ways that you can join in welcoming our new neighbors.
