Please join friends and neighbors in an ongoing discussion of the scope of racial injustice in our society, and its destructive, pervasive impact upon us all.
Although the riptides of our corporate media (of all stripes) seem to pit Americans against one another, it is important to remember our common ground. Small towns like ours afford us the powerful, empowering opportunity to engage in respectful, face-to-face discussions. In my view, this is the clearest way forward toward ideals of equality and freedom that matter to us all.
On a personal level, I continue to be inspired and motivated by all the ways in which white citizens can become involved in 1) pushing beyond engrained ways of thinking in order to see what I previously did not see, and 2) taking concrete action in order to achieve greater balance and understanding in our culture.
You don't need to have attended before in order to join our group. In fact, newcomers are often the ones who bring in the freshest, richest perspectives and questions. Please consider trying it out!
Respectfully,
Wrenn Compere, facilitator for MRVARI (the Mad River Valley Anti Racism Initiative)
P.S. Although this meeting is an exception (had to cancel last week!), our group meets regularly on the 4th Sunday of the month, from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Village Meeting House (ground floor of Waitsfield church). Next meeting will be 10/23/22.
