Past event
Oct 2, 2022, 10 AM to 2 PM

Guilford residents --
We have postponed the 250th anniversary celebration of the Carpenter House until tomorrow, Sunday, October 2. We hope you will join us.

SUNDAY, October 2, 2022 (RAIN DATE)
10am - 2pm
1472 Carpenter Hill Road

The Guilford Historical Society and the Guilford Conservation Commission have been working with the owners of the Carpenter House to plan a day of celebration for this beautiful homestead on Carpenter Hill Road. Built in 1772, the house was acquired by Benjamin Carpenter in 1779, the year he became Vermont's second lieutenant governor.

House Tours
10am-noon
Join a small group tour of the first floor of the Carpenter House. Guides will share details of each room. We ask that visitors:
· Leave pets at home.
· Wear a mask inside the house.
· Do not bring food or drink into the house.
· Do not take photos inside the house (leave cell phones and cameras outdoors).

Cemetery Visits
11am and 1pm
Join one of two guided tours of the beautiful Carpenter Cemetery and visit the final resting spots of many members of the Carpenter family. We will read Benjamin Carpenter's famous epitaph and look at the way gravestone styles have changed over the past 250 years.

Carpenter House Stories
12noon
Gail Lynde will present her research into the early years of the Carpenter House. The audience will be invited to ask questions and share stories at the end.

Trail Walks
10am-2pm
Visitors are invited to walk the trails on the Carpenter property. Trails will be marked and a map provided.

Picnic Lunch on the Lawn
If it's a nice day, bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn near the pond across from the house.
