Join Circle & Courtney's Allies for a day of awareness and advocacy on Sunday, October 2nd on the statehouse lawn in Montpelier.
Courtney's Allies will be hosting their annual 5k run/walk to raise awareness and money to support ending intimate partner violence. We are inviting all members of the community to participate in this event to show support to survivors, remember those we have lost, and to show that we will not tolerate any form of abuse in our community.
Registration for the 5k begins at 9:30am and the race begins at 10:00am. PRE Register here: https://racewire.com/register.php?id=13132
Circle will be hosting their Clothesline Project on the Statehouse Lawn from 9:30am-4:00pm. The Clothesline Project is a powerful art installation of survivor & child witness art on T-shirts. The purpose of the project is to increase awareness of the impact of emotional and physical violence, to honor a survivor's strength, and to provide an opportunity for the community to bear witness and hear their voices. You don't want to miss the power and impact that these t-shirts display.
Starting at 2:00pm, we will host a survivor speak out. This is a space for those impacted by domestic violence to let their voices be heard through storytelling, poetry, readings, chants, and more. Through storytelling, survivors are letting others know that it's possible to overcome both the trauma of domestic violence and the injustice of the system. Advocates will be present to provide support and to read stories for those who might not feel comfortable doing so.
Come join us for a day of awareness raising events as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Show your solidarity and join us to end gender-based violence in Washington County.
