Abenaki Artist Q&A and Wildflower Jelly Tasting at CCL

Past event
Oct 14, 2022, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

This free-form discussion titled "How to Honor & Respect the Wild Ones Around Us" will center on the identification, care, and use of wild edible plants, with plenty of time for questions on any related topics. There will be samples of Carol's homemade wildflower jellies for tasting!

Carol Billings Mcgranaghan is a member of the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi and has served as Chair of the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs. She is also a culinary artist who follows the traditions of her grandmothers who taught her about wild edible plants. She uses this knowledge of regional edible plants to create her one of a kind jams and jellies. To view her full artist statement and find links to her Etsy page, visit https://abenakiart.org/blog9/carol-billings-mcgranaghan/.

Booklets entitled "Vermont Abenakis: A Brief History of the People of the Dawnland, Vermont's First Human Inhabitants" by Carol Irons will be available for $5 at the program. The booklet presents Vermont's history from an Elder Abenaki's perspective.
