Lincoln Library Book Discussion Group of "Stolen Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention and How to Think Deeply Again" by Johann Hari published Jan. 2022. Facilitated by Mellen Kennedy

In his new book (January, 2022), "Stolen Focus", Johann Hari artfully explores in a comprehensive and captivating manner one of the most pressing problems today. Let's face it – most of us have a hard time focusing. What we pay attention to is what comprises our life and is our reality. It's one of the most important and intriguing volumes I've read in recent years. The author shares in a sometimes-humorous style, his own journey of recognizing his inability to focus, his addiction to media and devices, his personal efforts and experiments to free himself (including 3 months on Cape Cod without a phone or internet!) and his many aha moments as he puts the pieces of the puzzle together. He looks not just at the individual level, but also at the systemic causes. Hari interviewed more than 200 experts from around the global. It's both a hopeful and a challenging book.

So, let' read "Stolen Focus" together, have time to digest it, share our experiences and support each other in taking back our lives. In-person at the Lincoln Library 2nd, 4th & 5th Wednesday in July and August starting July 27 from 10 am to 11:15. Dates are 7/27, 8/10, 8/24 and 8/31. For the first session, we'll read the Into, and chapters 1-3. The sessions will also include a brief meditation to give us some practice at re-learning how to focus. The group will be limited to 12 participants. Please email the library or me to register at lincolnlibraryvt@gmail.com or mellenken@aol.com. Hope to see You then!
