Relocalizing VT: Jim Condos on Democracy

Past event
Jun 9, 2022, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio - protecting US democracy in 2022 and 2024; keeping food and other nutrients cycling in Vermont and why it's important to do so.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Thursday night at 8 pm is the first hearing of the January 6 committee on the 2021 attack on the US Capitol. The 2021 insurrection may have been a prelude to more organized attempts this year and in the future; Republicans are working at the local and state level around the country to put in place election officials who may sow chaos on election day as early as November 2022 and may be prepared to overrule the popular vote for president at the state level in 2024. Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos has worked both in Vermont and with Secretary of State colleagues around the country to ensure access to voting and fair counting of the votes. We'll get his perspectives on the current threats to US democracy and what can be done to counter them.

Every bit of food buried in a landfill is both buried treasure and a ticking environmental bomb, polluting the water and air plus taking up valuable landfill space. Composting food scraps keeps those nutrients circulating in food production rather than causing pollution, and small local businesses can profit from it. Natasha Duarte of the Composting Association of Vermont will talk about their project to increase composting of both food scraps and manure, including the free online event they're offering this Friday from noon to 1 pm.
