OFFICIAL MEETING NOTIFICATION:
Essex Democrats District Committee Meeting to Select Justice of the Peace Nominees
Upon the formation of the City of Essex Junction (City), the Town of Essex remaining after separation (Town After Separation or TAS) will have vacancies in the position of Justice of the Peace (JP). At least one JP who resides in the future City has tendered their resignation.
Under 17 VSA Sec. 2623, the Town Party of the vacant officer, in this case the Essex Democrats, has the responsibility to nominate replacement JPs. These JP nominees will be submitted to Governor Scott. Traditionally, Vermont governors honor the party affiliation of the vacancy.
Further, the Town of Essex Democrats have the honor and responsibility to nominate 15 JPs for the November ballot.
Three members of the current Town of Essex Democratic Committee who are also residents of the TAS – Brian Shelden, Dawn Hill-Fleury and Georgia Lavigne – hereby call an in-person meeting for both purposes.

First Order of Business: Election of a chair and secretary to lead the meeting, nomination process and voting.
Second Order of Business: Members of the Essex Town Democratic Committee who reside in the TAS will vote by either paper or voice ballot for the residents to be recommended to the Governor for appointment as Town of Essex Replacement Justices of the Peace. Interim JPs will serve from July 2022 to February 2023 when newly elected JPs are sworn in.
Third Order of Business: Members of the Essex Town Democratic Committee who reside in the TAS will vote by either paper or voice ballot for our 15 nominees for 2023 - 2025 Town of Essex Justice of the Peace. Those nominees will be placed on the November 8th General Election ballot in the Town of Essex.
If you are a Democrat, live in the TAS, and would like to be considered to serve as a Justice of the Peace, in either a replacement or "on-the-ballot" capacity, please contact me via email or attend on June 1st.
