Join Hike: "Middle Forest," Watershed Center Bristol June 1

Join us for a hike of the "Middle Forest" to help us to kick-off the Watershed Wildlands Project

Everyone is invited to help the Watershed Center kick off its new Wildlands Project with a special guided tour of the place we call the Middle Forest on Sunday, June 1 at 10am.

The Middle Forest, which the Watershed Center hopes to purchase with proceeds from the Wildlands Project, sits between the organization’s two existing properties—the Waterworks property and Lost Pond Forest. Its purchase will let the Center combine these two properties and create a single community preserve of nearly 1,000 acres for school trips, education programs, and public recreation.

Rain or shine, we’ll meet at the Waterworks property parking area on Plank Road in Bristol on Sunday, June 1 at 10:00 am. From there we’ll explore a hidden realm of geological wonders, fertile ponds and bogs, scenic vistas, and big trees that provide habitat for threatened species like the Indiana bat, eastern rat snake, and others.

This will be a somewhat strenuous 2-hour+ hike involving a small stream crossing and moderate elevation gain. If it’s wet, there could be mud—hiking boots are highly recommended! Bring plenty of water and bug repellent. Please carpool if possible and leave pets at home. For more information, visit www.thewatershedcentervt.org
