Hi friends,
Please consider joining me at the Richmond Free Library next Wed. evening, May 28th, at 6:30 pm.
Our local League of Women Voters is taking up discussion of Voter Empowerment and Campaign Finance issues in light of the US Supreme Court's rulings in the "Citizens United" and "McCutcheon" cases. These 2 pivotal court decisions have opened the floodgates for wealthy individuals and corporations to give vast sums of money to political candidates, eroding the foundations of our representative democracy.
Sen. Ginny Lyons will speak and take questions, along with Bill Butler (of Jericho) and Rick Hubbard, who are active in this issue. We have also invited Bernie Sanders and hope he can make it, as he will be in Vermont next week.
What can ordinary citizens like us do? Should the US Senate take up S J Resolution 19, the "Udall amendment", calling for a constitutional amendment to get big money out of politics?
I hope to see you Wednesday as we give this important issue greater visibility. The event is free and open to all. Megs Keir 434-3070
