The public hearing on the airport's request to rezone 11 acres from residential to commercial in the Chamberlin neighborhood has been postponed from tonight until February 17 at 7:30pm because of the snow.

Please mark your calendar: You will have the chance to speak at the February 17 public hearing sponsored by the official South Burlington Airport Expansion Task Force set up by the Planning Commission.

The two week delay gives opponents of airport encroachment into the residential neighborhood more time to get the facts.

Here is information we have so far:

o Commercial buildings provide negligible shadowing of 115-decibel F-35 noise–and that goes to zero shadowing after the F-35 has left the ground.

o abolition of the F-35 training flights in a city is needed, not commercial buildings in a residential neighborhood.

o If the 11 acres is rezoned commercial, the rest of the 44 acres of open land will be next.

o The rezoning to commercial can never be undone.

o The land should remain zoned residential so when the F-35 is stopped desperately needed affordable housing can then be built.

o The Airport Master Plan says the airport now includes 950 acres, all of it zoned commercial.

o That 950 acres includes plenty of unused space for buildings. Another 11 acres is not needed.

o Commercial buildings on existing airport land pay taxes to South Burlington–not one dollar more will come to South Burlington from encroaching on the Chamberlin neighborhood instead of just building on the airport's existing 950 acres.
