This Saturday evening, August 14th (or Sunday if the weather doesn't cooperate) from 8:30-10:30 PM at the Dac Rowe Field on Main Street in Waterbury, feast your eyes on the stars and planetary objects in space. The Vermont Astronomical Society will be present with the Waterbury Library staff, and will have their high powered telescopes aimed at Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and our first quarter moon. View constellations and perhaps the Perseid Meteor Showers too.
The Vermont Astronomical Society (VAS) is a group of amateur astronomers with varying backgrounds and levels of expertise whose mission is to promote amateur astronomy in Vermont. They can answer your questions, help you become familiar with the night sky, assist in operating a telescope and more. The Waterbury Library will also have their Orion StarBlast Reflector Telescope on hand which is available to check out.
If the weather is not optimal for viewing stay tuned. We will post again on Front Porch Forum, announce on WDEV, and have the info on our website. Our rain/inclement weather date is Sunday, August 15th, also from 8:30-10:30 PM. If the date is changed, we will make that call by Friday evening.
Please respect your neighbors, friends and the VAS by masking and using hand sanitizer before viewing. Thank you.
