Interdependence Celebration: Montpelier may not be holding its annual July 3rd parade or evening fireworks, but there will be plenty of opportunity to come together over the upcoming holiday weekend to have some fun and renew our relationships with our neighbors.
Several Capital Area Neighborhoods (CAN) in Montpelier have organized neighborhood-based July 3rd or 4th events, including an open-to-all event on Langdon Street from 3 to 5 PM on July 3rd! (Rain or Shine) hosted by The Capital Area Neighborhoods of Downtown Bridges. Langdon Street will be closed to vehicles and open for business and fun during this time! Come and enjoy local businesses, chalk art, and music, with a special thanks to Buch Spieler Records for providing music. At 4:15 PM, AllTogetherNow! will perform 'Midnight Capers Morris Team' and their Puppet Troupe and will lead a procession to the Statehouse at 4:45 PM! We look forward to seeing you, especially our downtown residents! This event will be a prelude to a larger event on the Statehouse Lawn, hosted by Montpelier's very own West African Arts and Culture group, Shidaa and a lineup of drummers/dancers/musicians from 5 to 8 PM.
Other CAN neighborhood events: On July 3rd both the Mountain View Street (rain date July 4), and the Prospect Street CANs are each hosting neighborhood-only events.
And last, but certainly not least, on July 4, the Loomis Street CAN welcomes all to a neighborhood porch concert on July 4th from 4:00-6:00 PM, rain or shine, at 2 Loomis Street. Montpelier's own Night Kitchen band will play song stylings both old and new for your listening and dancing pleasure.
Stay tuned! CAN is working to help bring more opportunities to connect in our city's neighborhoods. For more information about the Capital Area Neighborhoods, see sustainablemontpelier.org/can or email MontpelierCAN@gmail.com
