The League of Women Voters of Vermont, in partnership with Kellogg-Hubbard Library presents the fifth in its 2024-25 Lecture Series on Recent Supreme Court Decisions. This season we look at potential impacts of five important decisions issued since 2022.
The last program of the season, on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 pm, will feature William Clark of the Gifford Law Center and Attorney Cabot Teachout, a criminal defense lawyer, who will discuss the Garland v. Cargill decision.
In June 2024, the Court ruled that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives exceeded its statutory authority by issuing a rule that classifies a bump stock as a "machine gun."
The discussion will cover the case, its historical background, and current legislative action related to gun regulations in Vermont.
The League of Women Voters of Vermont Lecture Series, in its ninth season, is designed to bring outstanding speakers to discuss contemporary issues related to democracy and social justice.
This will be a virtual presentation. You may send questions in advance to league@lwvofvt.org, or through Chat during the event.
