Join the Poison Parsnip Brigade

Past event
Jun 2, 2021, 7 to 8 PM

The Starksboro Conservation Committee invites you to join us in beginning to clear the poison parsnip from the conserved land that includes the Cota Field and the Creekside Trail. We will meet this coming week on Wed. June 2 at 7pm. We will meet at the parking lot on the the left as you enter the ball field lot, but because there may be a game at that time, we suggest you car pool if possible. Experienced "weed warriors" from Monkton will be joining us to show us their special shovels and techniques. No experience is necessary, but we suggest that you not bring young children with you.

Please do wear long pants, long sleeves and boots or other closed shoes. Bring gloves (gauntlet style is best but not essential), bug spray or something for ticks. Eye protection can be helpful. Please also bring a regular rounded spade. You will not be digging up the roots, but merely breaking them off just below the crown, which is fairly easy to do. Many plants can be hand pulled and will not need a shovel.

This will be the first of many sessions over a number of years. This year the plants have appeared early and the season for pulling may be over by early August.

No need to RSVP. Just come and try it! We'll appreciate the help.
If you wish more information, you can email margigregroy@gmail.com or call 413 320-1920.
See you Wednesday at 7 pm!
