This coming Saturday, June 5th, is National Trails Day. Volunteers across the country will be working to clean up and improve hiking trails. The Hinesburg Trails Committee is joining this event by organizing several work crews to do special projects the Hinesburg Area Recreational Trails. If you would like to volunteer here is the information.
When: Meet at the Town Hall parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Projects will be assigned there. We will work until noon, then return to the Town Hall for pizza and report on our progress.
What: There are three types of maintenance jobs: lopping encroaching vegetation, clearing stumps from saplings and bushes cut earlier, and building a frame for a walkway.
Where: Work will be done on the Russell Trails, Geprags Park and along Baldwin Rd, where the Trails Committee is working on building a new trail.
What to bring: Bring loppers, hand saws (if lopping), pick hoes (for the Baldwin Rd crews) and small sledge hammers (for the frame building). The committee has a few tools but not enough for everyone. Bring water, gloves, sunscreen and bug spray.
Do: Please RSVP to me at elcabi2@gmavt.net if you plan on volunteering. It is very important that you do so, so we can plan on how many we will have for each project. It is also important so that we can contact you if we have to cancel for weather or any other reason.
Do not: Please do not go directly to that area you would like to work. We try to make sure we don't send too many volunteers to one location and too few to another.
Covid Restrictions: Since we will be working outdoors you will not need to wear a mask if you are fully vaccinated. We will still attempt to keep a reasonable distance and, please bring a mask to wear when we are close together at the start and finish of the workday.
Keep checking Front Porch Forum for any changes, such as tools needed, times etc. We'll have at least one more update posting.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Thanks, and hope to see lots of you next Saturday.
