Keeping Track of Vermont's Birds: Bird Banding at the Catamount Community Forest

Join Audubon Vermont's Conservation Program Manager Mark LaBarr for an opportunity to learn about our native birds and to see some up-close. Mark will be demonstrating bird banding techniques as he discusses the many ways researchers and community scientists monitor Vermont's bird populations, and new and innovative ways we can learn about breeding and migration dynamics of Vermont's birds.
Understanding the species of birds that use the Catamount Community Forest will also help us understand the types of habitat present on the parcel, habitats that may be underrepresented and how best to manage the parcel in the long-term for numerous uses and objectives, including vibrant habitat for an array of bird and wildlife species.
This will also be an opportunity to showcase some wildlife habitat management that recently occurred at
the Catamount Community Forest. Katie Kain, from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service's
Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program, and Ethan Tapper, the Chittenden County Forester, will be on
hand to talk about recent wildlife habitat management activities that occurred last winter on the parcel.

This will be a free event, and the public are invited to drop by anytime from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Parking for the Catamount Community Forest is located at 592 Governor Chittenden Road in Williston, the banding will occur an easy walk from the parking area, on the Woods Trace trail. All state restrictions with respect to masking and social distancing will be observed.
