Spring Vernal Pool Ecology Workshop
Saturday, May 8th from 10-12.
Register by May 5th by contacting Valstori@yahoo.com.
Additional details will be provided upon registering.
The Underhill Conservation Commission and Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Committee invite you to participate in a hands-on workshop with Conservation Biologist, Steve Faccio from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies. Steve will take us on a tour of local vernal pools and explain the ecology of these small, short-lived, spring wetlands and the ecological role they play. If you've been curious about the peeps, grunts, and trills you've been hearing on spring nights, this workshop is for you. Steve will walk us through amphibian identification as well. The content is geared towards adults, though children are welcomed. However, we are limiting participation to 12 people. Please register in advance by May 5th by contacting Valstori@yahoo.com. We will practice social distancing and follow COVID-guidelines. Please be prepared to be outdoors for 2 hours. Rain date 5/15.
About Us: The Underhill Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Project is a joint project by the Planning Commission and Conservation Commission and is being conducted to fulfill requirements identified in our Town Plan. This project will compile what we know about our natural resources to help prioritize and manage our natural resources. Our town has competing priorities for land use such as preserving scenic vistas, housing needs, and renewable energy sites. Future land use planning will need to balance our desire to maintain the rural character of the town, with planning for where development is best suited. In conjunction with the Conservation Commission, we are offering a series of presentations and field workshops to draw attention to our natural resources.
