The Great Spring Migration

Past event
Mar 24, 2021, 1:30 to 2:30 PM

On March 24 at 1:30 Huntington resident Cindy Sprague will give a virtual talk on the great "Spring Migration" of all things herp (herpetology is the study of amphibians and reptiles). On certain nights in spring amphibians wake from their winter lairs and begin a long journey. Some amphibians make this journey. Some don't. Cindy will explain the who's and how's of this great annual migration and what is compelling them to move. Cindy will share how she came to love herps and will have intricate pictures of salamanders, toads and frogs. The journey is dangerous. A tiny salamander crossing the road is easily killed.

Cindy will discuss the Huntington Conservation Commission's "Adopt A Crossing" program and introduce you to the North Branch Nature Center's Amphibian Road Crossing Program or "ARC". She will give you tips on how to find amphibian crossing sites in your town.
