Feb. Food Distribution, Elections, Council Meeting Feb. 23

Past event
Feb 23, 2021, 5 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

I have a few items of interest to pass along.

FEBRUARY FOOD DISTRIBUTION EVENT

The next Food Distribution will be next SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27 at NOON in the Champlain Elementary parking lot. Anyone in need is welcome and encouraged to attend. We will have lots of fresh produce, a cool gallon of milk, eggs, food staples, home goods, and gift cards, all in a wonderful reusable cloth bag. We are so grateful to our many dedicated volunteers who have been braving the winter weather to join their neighbors to help make these events happen. And to our generous vendors and financial contributors.

I would like to highlight that Burlington Furniture, owner Mark Binkhorst and all the employees have pledged a percentage of their February sales to assist us with our food distributions in March and April. Many thanks to Mark and all the Burlington Furniture employees for this generous donation to helping our neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity.

Burlington Furniture is located at 747 Pine Street, just across from Champlain Elementary. If you are thinking about a furniture purchase, I hope you will check out Burlington Furniture and support a local business who is working to make a difference in our community.

ELECTION INFORMATION

Voting is already underway for Town Meeting Day elections. If you haven't gotten a ballot by tomorrow and are an active registered voter, please reach out to our CAO Katherine Schad at kschad@burlingtonvt.gov
Once again, as there have been many posts on this forum about how to return your ballot, you can do so:

BY MAIL. Just follow the instructions in the ballot fully and please try and get your ballot in the mail by Monday, February 22.

BY DROPBOX. You can put your ballot, fully sealed according to the instructions, in an outdoor dropbox, available 24/7 until 4:30pm on March 1. There are 4 dropboxes:
City Hall – opposite the Flynn Center
DPW at 645 Pine Street
Fire Station #2, at the corner of North Avenue and Strong Street
The Miller Center at the end of Gosse Court in the New North End
There is also an indoor dropbox on the ground floor of City Hall open M-F 8am to 4:30pm.

IN PERSON on Town Meeting Day. The Ward 6 polling place is Edmunds Middle School, and the polls are open 7am to 7pm. I will be at the polls much of the day to answer any questions on ballot items and hopefully to see those of you in person as best we can.
You aren't registered to vote? All registration information is located on our website here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/CT/Voter-Registration-Info

In advance of March 2, voters can either register online or can print out the form and mail in their registration. Remember that City Hall is closed to the public due to COVID and open by appointment and only for services that cannot be completed remotely.

You can also register to vote up until the polls close on Town Meeting Day, in person at your polling place.

SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON CITYPLACE BURLINGTON

There will be a special meeting of the City Council this Tuesday, February 23 at 5pm. The only item on the agenda will be the CityPlace Burlington settlement with the owners of the mall, BTC Mall Associates. This item was on our agenda this past Monday but was delayed to allow Councilors and the community additional time to read the documentation and allow for further community input on this important issue. There will be a public forum next Tuesday. An agenda has not yet been posted but my guess is that the public forum will begin just after 5pm. The form to sign up for public forum is: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/citycouncil/publicforum.

The zoom webinar link for the meeting is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82266797336

The meeting has just been announced in the past hour. When i get more information, i will pass it along.

That's all for now.

My best,
Karen
