Virtual Panel -- Social Impact & Business: Investing in a Better World
Tuesday, February 2, 7:00-8:00 PM
Via Zoom

The Social Impact Scholar Program of Champlain College presents a virtual panel discussion: "Social Impact and Business: Investing in a Better World." Many corporations today are being challenged to think about more than satisfying shareholders by maximizing profits; they are being asked to redefine their mission, vision and values around the community, the environment, and/or the world. During this panel event, we will discuss the rise of social awareness when it comes to company practices, and how that has transformed the running of businesses, the investments in and by businesses, and consumer spending at businesses.

We will offer some historical context first, then look at the business landscape today, and finally make predictions for the future. Specific topics will (likely) include: Ben and Jerry's as a model, the rise of the B Corps, and socially responsible investment strategies, including the newly emerging social impact bonds. The second half of the event will allow for general Q&A with the audience.

Panelists:
Karin Chamberlain, Director of Impact Investing for Clean Yield Asset Management
Cyrus Patten, Assistant Dean in Stiller School of Business
Jennifer Vincent, Professor in Stiller School of Business
Sarah Lancaster, Social Impact Scholar and student entrepreneur
