Youth of all ages have a lot of information coming at them from many different directions. When we see unexpected things happening in our world, we all experience big feelings. We hope to create a sense of community for youth in which we can share these experiences and begin to create a space for healing. We will hold and honor a diversity of perspectives in this conversation.
CHIPS Teen Center & Howard Center
Facilitated by Betsy, Emily (Howard Center), & Teen Center leaders
The Process
We will use a restorative circle process. This means that the circle keeper will ask a question, and each member of the group will be given a chance to respond to that question. We have some basic guidelines to follow in this process, but invite you to share others.
.
Youth Discussion Promise
I will only talk when it is my turn to speak.
I and others can pass anytime
I will use "I statements" and talk about my own experience and perspectives
What is spoken here, stays here.
I will not blame, accuse or label anyone else
I will not speak with a desire to change or persuade anyone else
I will listen and do my best to understand what's important to others
If I'm not feeling safe, I will let the facilitator know to the best of my ability
If we as a group are not following our guidelines, I will speak up and share responsibility for the success of the conversation
