School Board - Validation Vote April 22

Past event
Apr 22, 2014

Members of the Wallingford School Board were delighted to learn on the evening of March 4th that our voters had shown strong support for our proposal to make some long-needed repairs to the school building as well as improvements for safety, accessibility and energy efficiency. Our delight was short-lived, however, as we learned two days later that we had not warned the bond vote in perfect accordance with Vermont Statutes. We failed to post the warning in the Rutland Herald for three consecutive weeks...a clerical oversight that has now been addressed. This means we must now ask voters to reaffirm their support for the proposal by validating the original vote.

While we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, we also recognize that it affords us the opportunity to convey information that was not available when Town Meeting rolled around. Details of the project are being fine-tuned, and we continue to learn of grant monies that are available...particularly for the energy efficiency components. This of course is a “win-win” prospect, as the both the grant monies and reduced consumption of fuel and electricity will save tax dollars.

Please join us at the school on Monday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. for an updated (and somewhat shorter) presentation on the proposal, and to pose any questions you may have. And please be sure to come out and vote…at Town Hall…from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 22nd. Child care will be available after 2:30 p.m.

Thank you for the long-standing support you have shown for our school. We realize that you have entrusted us with overseeing the single most important piece of ensuring a bright future for all of us, and we will not let you down.

Respectfully submitted,
Ken Fredette
Tara Lidstone
