Fall Foliage Bike Ride on the Cross Vermont Trail

Newbury Conservation CommissionWe're excited to announce this special round trip edition of our Fall Foliage Bike Ride!

This year's route will have simplified logistics and be a round trip ride within the confines of the Groton State Forest [versus our traditional one-way ride]. This section of the Cross Vermont Trail will follow the historic Montpelier-Wells River Railroad , taking us in and out of woodlands and past secluded lakes. The Groton State Forest should be in all its fall glory and at near peak in terms of color.

We'll meet in the parking area at Upper Valley grill [ 2967 Scott Hwy. Groton, VT. 05046] Our route will then head north on the Cross Vermont Trail to the 4 corners at Lanesboro. We'll then turn around and ride back to Upper Valley Grill. Trip distance is about 16.5 miles round trip, all on the Cross Vermont Trail. Ride time should be approximately 1.5-2 hours for most participants.

Starting time 9:30am for sign in and bike safety cheek. At 10:00 we ride.

For a shorter family friendly ride [good for those with younger children or less experienced riders] we suggest Boulder Beach Rd. as a turn around point. Trip distance is just under 11 miles.

Volunteers will be at the start of the event to give directions and information about the ride. We will post volunteers at the major road crossing, and the turn around at Lanesboro for assistance and safety.

There will not be a cookout or informational displays at the end of the ride.
These changes will help us to adhering to Covid 19 rule by:
1. Cutting out the post ride lunch and gathering, keeping with social distancing guidelines.
2. Cutting out the need to shuttle folks back at the end of ride.
