Preview of May 11 Council Meeting

Past event
May 11, 2020, 7 to 9 PM

Dear Neighbors,

Before I get to the Council meeting preview, I would let you know about a community event next week.

On SATURDAY, MAY 16 FROM 9-11AM, the first SOUTH END COMMUNITY FOOD PICKUP will take place at the Champlain Elementary parking lot. We are so fortunate to live in a community where neighbor helps neighbor. Please help us spread the word about this food pickup. We will have food staples, grocery gift cards, free masks, free books and more available for anyone in need. I will have another reminder on FPF but please mark your calendars now.

This coming Monday, May 11, is the first of two Council meetings for the month of May. The meeting will be entirely remote and virtual. There are several ways to tune in and watch and participate:
1. You can watch on YouTube or on Burlington Telecom Channel 317.
The YouTube link is: https://bit.ly/34vGH8O
2. You can join via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87664578352
3. You can call in for audio only: the phone number is 312-626-6799 webinar ID 931 0000 3435

Our Council meeting will begin at 7pm. Our first item will is an open item to allow time for any climate emergency reports. I will be reporting on the progress we are making and hope to continue to make with regard to a leaf blower ordinance. This was passed by the Council to the Ordinance Committee in January. Recent events have prevented the Ordinance Committee moving forward with work on this ordinance, but the committee hopes to restart this discussion later this month.

Our deliberative agenda includes four items. Following the approval of an outdoor entertainment permit, the other three items include:

• We will have a communication that will include authorizing the Chief Innovation Officer to implement a new enterprise permitting system. The new system utilizes improved technology that provides additional options for residents to apply and track applications online, internal workflow automation, internal process updates and notifications, robust management reporting and mobile capabilities to replace a system that is no longer supported or meeting our community's needs.
• We will get an update on the Champlain Parkway Project.
• We will get an update on the 2020 road and sidewalk construction initiative and other projects work to be undertaken this summer and into the fall.

There will be an opportunity to participate in the public forum. Please provide a notification to the City via email that you want to participate during public forum by sending an email to publicforum@burlingtonvt.gov We hope you will join us virtually for this important meeting.

I hope you have a good weekend. As always, I welcome your questions and concerns, so please be in touch.

My best,
Karen
