Meals on Wheels Drop Off & EMC Intro

Hello, Neighbors:
Perhaps under the influence of relentless anxiety, you did a panic shop and now your basement is filled with toilet paper, Lysol, handsoap and paper towels. Maybe you feel a little guilty because, let's face it, only those with means can hoard. That's okay! We're only human and what are humans supposed to do when confronted with a worldwide pandemic that's scarier than a bestselling young adult dystopian novel? Stock up on Kirkland's 2-ply, that's what!

But now you have a chance to give back. Sure, you might not be able to unload the rotting veggies, but you can drop off some of the toilet paper, hand sanitizers, liquid hand soap, Kleenex, disinfiecting wipes and paper towels you may have overbought between 11 AM and 1 PM, Saturday, March 21 at the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department on Welch Park Road (off US Route 2 across from the VT State Police). Meals on Wheels will pick them up and distribute them to your housebound neighbors who can't go to the grocery store for pandemic reasons and, even if they could, would be unable to find this stuff cause #crazy.

I'd like to introduce you to our Middlesex Emergency Management Committee volunteers who are donating their time and talents to making sure our vulnerable neighbors are fed and cared for while in isolation. Paul Otenti, a retired Massachusetts firefighter newly moved to Middlesex, is the Coordinator. He has taken charge of this like a hell-a-fire. Also on the team are Jeff Koonz and Doug Hanson of the MVFD, Marge Bower of the FAST Squad, Lauri Scharf (I don't know what his exact title is but he does a lot with information gathering), Liz Fortman, our Town Health Officer, Erika Holm, our Animal Control Officer, Chis McVeigh, who represents the WCUUD Board, Liz Scharf, representing the Select Board, Ross Lieblappen, who does stuff with maps, Road Foreman Paul Cerminara and several other volunteers connecting with their neighbors. Of special note are Madison Roberge and her fellow U-32 Seniors who are meeting, organizing, and schlepping supplies. Nothing is more heartwarming than seeing the younger generation step up to the plate.

Finally, while school may be out, school buses are on the roads delivering food to families. More people than ever are out and about shaking off this quarantine by running and walking. Please be careful.

For more links and information about how you can donate or receive assistance, please go to middlesexvermont.org. Thank you!
Sarah Merriman, Town Clerk, on behalf of the Middlesex Emergency Management Committee.
