ERGO/movement Presents:
They Say a Lady Was the Cause of It

Join us for an evening-length contemporary dance opera with live original music and song!

They Say A Lady Was the Cause of It is an exploration of agency, identity, intimacy, and relationships. Inspired in part by Virginia Woolf's Orlando and Undine Geht by Ingeborg Bachmann, we examine the complexities of gender roles imposed by society, as well as the fight to reclaim individual narratives to rewrite what society has prescribed. The eleven dancers performing in this work contribute their own narratives and voices to this important conversation.

The dancers range vastly in age, life experience and backgrounds- from professional to self-taught. Dancing in this work are Beth Morelli, Brooke Moen, Danielle Tekut, Emer Pond Feeney, Hanna Satterlee, Holly Chagnon, Jessie Owens, Joy Madden, Kim Beinin, Nicole Dagesse, and Toby MacNutt. Their performance will be accompanied by live, original music by composer Matt LaRocca (Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Champlain Philharmonic Orchestra). Matt's viola will be joined by Kyle Saulnier on saxophone and string bass, Polly Vanderputten on cello, and Britta Tonn on piano. Vocals will be performed by Roxanne Vought, and Allison and Cameron Steinmetz.

Performances: February 21-22, 2020 at Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center in Burlington VT, and February 28-29, 2020 at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, VT. Doors at 7pm, show at 7:30pm. $25/general seating, $15/students with a valid student ID.

Tickets for the Burlington performances can be purchased at: https://they-say-a-lady.brownpapertickets.com.
Tickets for the Middlebury performances can be purchased at: https://townhalltheater.org/event/they-say-a-lady-was-the-cause-of-it/.
