You're invited to a delicious post-Town Meeting tradition: spaghetti dinner with your choice of topping (meat sauce made with local grass-fed beef, marinara sauce, or pesto), homemade rolls with butter, and fresh salad. Gluten-free options available. And don't forget the dessert potluck!

The best-attended town meetings in Vermont always feature food, and in Middlesex, the post-town meeting dinner has a long and delicious history. Our dinner will begin right after town meeting (probably 6:30 or 7) at the Rumney School. Suggested donation: $8 for adults, $4 for kids under age 12. Proceeds will benefit the Middlesex Fire Department. Also, you are invited to bring a non-perishable item for the Middlesex Food Shelf.

Remember, Middlesex Town Meeting will be held at Rumney Memorial School on Tuesday, March 3 starting at 4:30 pm. The polls will be open for Australian ballot voting (including presidential primary voting) from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. See you there!

Meanwhile, here's an unusual recipe that Middlesex resident Nancy Reilly swears by. (Black beans and chocolate? For real!) May it inspire Middlesex bakers to bring your own creative offering for our dessert potluck!

Black Bean Brownies
Makes 12 servings. Gluten free. The recipe notes "You can serve this heavenly concoction with melted dark chocolate, fresh mango and coconut ice cream."

Ingredients:
1 can (19 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained (or 1 1/2 C cooked)
3 eggs
1/2 C unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 C butter or coconut oil
3/4 C Sucanat or 2/3 C maple syrup
1/2 C dark chocolate chips
1 T vanilla
2/3 C walnuts, chopped (optional)*
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Add all ingredients except walnuts into a food processor and puree. Stir in walnuts (if using). Pour brownie batter into a greased 8"x8" pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

* Note: Nuts are not allowed in Rumney classrooms due to nut allergies.
