Many of you have attended the psychology-oriented educational programs that I have facilitated in the past at Kellogg-Hubbard Library, Norwich University, and most recently at The Vermont Center for Wellness/IPPI in Berlin, VT.
This announcement is somewhat different. I am very pleased to invite you to join me on a weekly basis for group psychotherapy sessions at the Vermont Center. Please read the description below:
The Vermont Center for Wellness at The Institute for Professional Practice in Berlin announces that it will begin offering group therapy beginning February 13, 2020.
The therapy group will meet Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the IPPI conference facility at 2069 Airport Road.
Clinical Therapist Peter Burmeister, M.A., will facilitate the program, and he may be joined by other members of the Vermont Center staff to address particular needs and concerns as they arise during the course of the therapeutic processes.
Peter's therapeutic orientation includes psychoanalytic, humanist and gestalt methods. His approach is low-key and allows each group participant to make significant contributions to the process.
Group therapy has proved to be an effective means of identifying and dealing with a wide variety of mental health issues, including, but by no means limited to: anxiety, depression, relationships, death, sexuality, loneliness, and isolation. It is a fact that we can learn a great deal from the experience and wisdom of other people. That is why group therapy is such a powerful healing modality.
The group process may serve as a complement to individual therapy. However, many members find it to be helpful as a stand-alone means of dealing with one's significant issues. Interacting with others under the guidance of a therapist can be an essential means of learning. We can gain much insight through the observations and commentaries that develop during a group therapy session.
The Vermont Center is able to bill Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medicaid for group therapy, depending on the plan level of the subscriber. For those without insurance who wish to pay for service, the fee is $25 per session, with a sliding scale available depending on individual needs and circumstances.
For more information, contact Peter Burmeister at (802) 595-6444 or via pburmeister@ippi.org.
If you plan to attend, you may RSVP by e-mail, or just show up for any of the consecutive sessions on Thursday evenings starting in February.
Plans are in the works for additional exciting and provocative educational and training programs to be offered at IPPI in the very near future. Stay tuned for further information.
