Michael Arnowitt in Concert at Flynnspace

In concert Sunday, January 19, 7:30 FlynnSpace in Burlington One of the most creative musicians of today, pianist Michael Arnowitt presents his latest compositions and arrangements of jazz old and new. He'll be joined by the outstanding New York City musicians David Smith on trumpet and Rick Rosato on bass, along with Vermont favorites Dan Silverman on trombone and Caleb Bronz on drums.

Michael Arnowitt will lead the quintet in a colorful and diverse evening of jazz past and present. The concert program reveals Michael Arnowitt's wide-ranging musical interests, from his creative version of the jazz standard There Will Never Be Another You, selections from his Jazz Suite from West Side Story, and music based on Stravinsky's early 1900's ballets, to songs by Joni Mitchell (Edith and the Kingpin), Dave Holland, and jazz influenced by Brazilian, Bulgarian and Syrian music. A special feature of the concert will be spoken word artist Therisa Rogers who will join the quintet to perform poems about music by Langston Hughes for a classic combination of poetry and jazz.
