"Rail City" Update

Past event
Apr 10, 2014, 7 to 8:30 PM

Charles Hunter, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for Rail America, will present an update on “New England Central Railroad Infrastructure Upgrade Projects” on Thursday, April 10 at 7pm, as part of the Local History Lecture Series at the St. Albans Historical Society & Museum (9 Church Street, St. Albans, VT).

Known historically as the “Rail City,” St. Albans continues to play a critical role in the rail industry in Vermont and throughout New England. His discussion will focus on several regional upgrade and repair efforts. Running from St. Albans to Washington, DC each day, improvements to the Vermonter line were one of the first projects of the Federal Railroad Administration’s High-Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail program. The state of Vermont also received a federal TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant from the US Department of Transportation to improve commercial rail capacity between St. Albans and Alburgh. New England Central Railroad was awarded additional funding for improvements between New London, CT and the Connecticut/Massachusetts border.

The Local History Lecture Series is free for members and open to the public by donation. Light refreshments will be provided.
