How safe are you online? AARP wanted to know what adults were doing to safeguard their digital identities, so they conducted a survey back in July and found some astonishing statistics. Some of the information they uncovered was that six in 10 adults failed a quiz testing their "digital identity IQ,", about half of adults (47%) report noticing fraudulent charges on their credit or debit card, yet very few (14%) ordered a security freeze on their credit. Nearly half (48%) of adults have used the same password for more than one online account, and only four in 10 (43%) respondents reported having online access to all of their bank accounts. With statistics like these, what can you do to protect yourself?

Bill April, an AARP representative with over 30 years in the computer business will be speaking at the Waterbury Library, on Wednesday, November 6th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on how to uncover the messages and traps on computers, phones and tablets that steal your personal information, and how even those stolen pieces can be used against you.

Topics covered include identity theft, how it is obtained and where it is used, and how to protect yourself.

Bill April has worked in many different aspects of the computer field from hardware design to systems and software. He has an AS in Electro-Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Business Administration.
