Saturday Contra Dance at Grange Hall!

Past event
Oct 19, 2019, 7:30 to 11 PM

The "Montpelier Contra Dance" has been held at the Capital City Grange Hall since 1983, according to those who were there...Join us this Saturday for another great dance.

This week, Kristen Planeaux will teach and call all the dances, and will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM. She's from western Mass., relocated from southern Ohio. A musician and dancer as well as a caller, she'll help us all have a great time dancing together from 8:00 to 11:00. Come and join us for the intro session if you haven't done this kind of dancing before, or if you just want a "refresher".

Music for this evening will be by "Cloud Ten", yet another great band that combines traditional tunes with adventurous variations. Fiddler Cedar Stanistreet, piano/banjo/trumpeter Arthur Davis, cellist/guitarist Donal Sheets, and percussionist Ness Smith-Savedoff combine for diverse styles and instrumental combinations. Come and check out the music, and just try to not dance...

Kristen will be using the non-gendered terms "Larks & Ravens" for calling this dance.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along too!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income. This dance is part of the year-round series at the Grange Hall.
