Get ready for winter! Gather up and dispose of expired or unused drugs which should NOT be flushed down the toilet, washed down the drain, composted, or left around the house. Proper disposal helps avoid harming water sources, wildlife, pets, and people. It also helps to prevent theft and misuse by others. In 2017, 10% of Vermont teens reported taking a pain reliever or stimulant not prescribed to them. We'd like to help prevent this! Talk to your kids and grandchildren about the dangers of prescription drugs.

The Vermont Department of Health's "Do Your Part" campaign asks Vermonters to follow some easy steps to properly store and dispose of medications--LOCK: Store meds in a locked box or medicine cabinet; DROP: Drop off unused meds at a kiosk at your local police station or pharmacy or on Take Back Day; MAIL: Use the pre-paid envelopes to easily mail back unused or expired medications. Envelopes may be requested from the Vermont Department of Health at 802-651-1567. Or pick one up at a local library or senior center.
This Take Back Day happens twice a year as a reminder to clean out your medicine cabinets.
