"Woods Whys" with Michael Snyder

Join author Michael Snyder at Bear Pond Books for a talk about his new book, "Woods Whys: An Exploration of Forests and Forestry," a steadfast companion for anyone with a love for the woods and a desire to learn more about them.

With a reading, Q&A, book signing, and refreshments. Free and open to the public.

About the Author:
Michael Snyder has served as Commissioner of Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation since January 2011. For the fourteen years prior to that he was the Chittenden County Forester, providing land stewardship assistance to private landowners and municipalities. He also taught forestry courses at the University of Vermont for twelve years and wrote the "Woods Whys" column for Northern Woodlands magazine for nearly two decades. Previously he worked in forest ecosystem science at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest and in land surveying and forest management in New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Sweden. He received both his Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in forestry from the University of Vermont. He lives with his family in North- Central Vermont and owns and manages a 91- acre forest in Essex County, Vermont, where he always learns and sometimes practices what he's learned about the woods. He is an avid outdoorist, especially enjoying hunting, fishing, skiing, water sports, backpacking, and camping. He also really likes food and music.
