Friends of Music at Guilford's (FOMAG) 53rd season finale is its "A Cappella à la Carte" evening on Sunday, June 9, at Guilford Community Church, just off Rt. 5 near the country store. The evening's three-part menu offers a brief and merry Membership Meeting (open to all) at 6:00, a Community Potluck dinner at about 6:45, and an A Cappella vocal concert at 7:30. The meeting includes an overview of this past season, plans for next year, and voting for the board clerk and slate of trustees (you can sign up on the spot if you'd like to vote!). . . . FOMAG provides hearty sandwich fixings and a variety of beverages for the Community Potluck starting between 6:30 and 6:45; entrées, salads, sides, appetizers, and desserts are welcome contributions from attendees -- desserts are held for a post-concert reception. . . . The 7:30 Concert features the renowned BIG WOODS VOICES quartet, which marries singing traditions from around the world with various American roots genres and original compositions or arrangements in which "harmony and dissonance dance in riveting yet accessible soundscapes." Members include Alan Blood, long-time member of groups including the Blanche Moyse Chorale, I Cantori, Blue Moon, and House Blend; Will Danforth, singer-songwriter, traditional acoustic artist, and the group's arranger/composer; Becky Graber, leader of the Brattleboro Women's Chorus and Animaterra Women's Chorus in Keene; and Amanda Witman, founder and co-leader of the Brattleboro Pub Sing with Tony Barrand. The group's repertoire includes lyrical settings of poetry by David Whyte, Mary Oliver, W. B. Yeats, and others; richly harmonized standards of the American roots lexicon; and original Danforth compositions. Add to that a few vocal gems by musicians Pete Sutherland, The Finest Kind, and the Stanley Brothers, and the result is "the ear-thrilling experience called Big Woods Voices.". . . Guilford Community Church, 38 Church Dr., is handicap-accessible; an elevator takes wheelchair-bound or mobility-impaired visitors to and from the church sanctuary on the second floor. . . .
