The Hungry Heart explores the world of prescription drug addiction through the practice of Vermont Pediatrician Fred Holmes, who worked with patients struggling with this disease. The film looks at the often hidden world of addiction and recovery and reveals the many challenges that Dr. Holmes and his patients faced in confronting a relentless and difficult disease. The road to recovery is paved with both success stories and relapses, but through it all there is hope.
Following the movie, representatives from The Turning Point Recovery Center will be present to talk with the audience, and to describe their new federal grant-funded Pathways to Recovery program and other local efforts addressing the problems of opiate addiction, treatment and recovery in Barre.
