Carmina Burana May 4 & 5

Past event
May 4, 2019, 7:30 to 9:30 PM

The scenic cantata, "Carmina Burana" will feature MRC's conductor Mary Jane Austin on the podium with Randall Thompson's "Alleluia," conducted by South Burlington's Erik Kroncke.

Soprano soloist Mary Bonhag, whose voice has been described in reviews as "extraordinary," "supple," and "expressive" with "marvelous versatility," will be joined by bel canto tenor Adam Hall ("technical perfection and heartfelt interpretation") and operatic bass Erik Kroncke ("astounding depth and warm timbre"). Accompaniment will be on two grand pianos played by Alison Cerutti and Samantha Angstman, and the many instruments of five percussionists led by Brian Johnson.

"Carmina Burana" is said to be the most-performed choral work in the world. Singers and audiences enjoy the varied and exciting combination of secular poetry written by 13th century monks and 20th century music by Carl Orff. Thompson's "Alleluia" setting is one of the most loved versions because of its restrained, almost mystical elegance of expression.

Concerts will take place on Saturday May 4, 7:30 pm in the McCarthy Arts Recital Hall of St. Michael's College in Colchester and Sunday May 5, 4:00 pm in the auditorium of Harwood Union High School in Duxbury.

Advance tickets to the Saturday evening concert at St. Michael's can be purchased at www.sbchorusvt.org or at South Burlington Recreation office,
575 Dorset St. For advance tickets to the Sunday afternoon Harwood concert on May 5, please visit www.madriverchorale.net or call 496-2048. Tickets will also be available at the door for both concerts.
