The Sustainable Montpelier Coalition will be giving a Workshop at Hunger Mountain Coop this Wednesday, May 1st 6-7:30pm.
Montpelier, Vermont may be the smallest state capital in the country, but it arguably has one of the largest per-capita cultures of innovative thinkers and sound environmental policies in the U.S. However, to become the beacon of climate resilience and sustainability, we need a major boost. And that's where Mayday, the call for help comes in. We need all hands on deck!
The time is ripe to set a standard on the most local level, for livable, walkable cities, prepared to weather the storms of a warming planet. We need a local Green New Deal energizing every neighborhood in Montpelier. Acting now, we could prepare for one of the worst threats of climate change, facing our small city – the increases in precipitation and severities of storm events. Perhaps a Civilian Corps of Montpelier Neighbors could build a green infrastructure to mitigate floods and keep polluted water from reaching our rivers?
What would a Green New Deal look like for Montpelier? Come explore that idea with Moderator Elizabeth Courtney, Dan Jones, the Sustainable Montpelier Coalition staff, John Snell, Sarah Hoffmeier and members of the Montpelier Tree Board.

We will start with a discussion inside and then move outside to look at the riparian buffer on the river bank and plant a tree in the parking lot. We look forward to your thoughts.
