Final Reminder of the free compost workshops happening Wed April 17 in both Orange and Montpelier hosted by the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.

Montpelier - COMPOST BASICS - 5:45 - 7:15 pm - North Branch Nature Center, 713 Elm St, FREE
This workshop will get you started composting successfully, and we'll review other options to keep food scraps out of the trash. You'll learn strategies for jump-starting an old pile, and how to keep smells down, and animals out. Join Cassandra Hemenway, Outreach Manager at the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District, graduate of the UVM Master Composter program, and certified compost facility operator. Everyone goes home with a starter kit. Soil Saver Composters and Green Cones will be available for workshop participants at deeply discounted rates ($35 Soil Savers; $90 Green Cones). Participants MUST PRE-REGISTER: http://www.cvswmd.org/program-registration.html

Orange - COMPOST & RECYCLING BASICS, 6 pm - 7:30 pm at the Orange Town Hall - FREE
Same workshop as above, taught by Emma Stuhl of the VT Dept of Environmental Conservation, Solid Waste Division. Emma will also spend a bit of time going over the most common recycling contaminants and why it's important in 2019 to sort recyclables even better than we used to. Heavily discounted compost equipment will be available at both workshops. No need to preregister for the Orange workshop.
