On Saturday April 13th from 10:30am-12:00pm, join Elana Feldman of the Cooperative Invasive Species Management Association (CISMA) for the Batten Kill Watershed at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington to learn about new invasive plants that are threatening the watershed.
While many have become familiar with the dense patches of buckthorn, Japanese barberry, and shrub honeysuckles which have been here for decades, several new species are slowly finding inroads within the watershed or nearby, such as tree-of-heaven, black and pale swallowwort, and porcelainberry. Early detection of these species and a rapid removal response will help avoid serious impacts to the forest and riparian habitats in our area.
Elana Feldman, Habitat Steward and Coordinator for the CISMA-BKW, will discuss the importance of control of 'early detection/rapid response' plants while participants learn to identify ten of the most threatening species. Participants will also learn actions to take if they find the plants on their own land.
Please contact Elana at 422-2275 or coordinator.cisma.bkw@gmail.com with any questions.
