One of America's top experts on U.S European relations, Mr. Sloan is founding director the Atlantic Community Initiative, nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States and Visiting Scholar in Political Science at Middlebury College. He is retired, following a career of government service at the Congressional Research Service, the CIA and as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Sloan has authored dozens of CRS studies, journal articles, opinion editorials, monographs and books on transatlantic relations, US foreign and security policy and Euro-Atlantic security issues. His most recent work includes Transatlantic traumas: Has illiberalism brought the West to the brink of collapse? (2018) and Defense of the West: NATO, the European Union and the Transatlantic Bargain (2016).
