The Clarinet Concerto is one of Mozart's masterpieces. I wore out a vinyl record of Benny Goodman playing the solo clarinet in it. This Sunday, March 17, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra will be at the Paramount at 3 PM. They will perform the Clarinet Concerto with the solo played by a justly famous clarinetist, Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a performance not to be missed, even if you (or your kids) aren't great enthusiasts for classical music. If you like jazz clarinet, you'll like the Clarinet Concerto. The piece is alive, beautiful, and as complex as a jazz improvisation.
