IMPORTANT MEETING ON RESCUE SERVICES IN JERICHO
THIS FRDAY (TOMORROW) COMMUNITY CENTER 7pm
I want to thank the Underhill Jericho Fire Department for stepping up to solve a critical issue with the Rescue EMT service in Jericho and Underhill. It involves a shortage of Rescue volunteers.
We are critically short of medical first responders in Jericho and Underhill. These are the community volunteer medical EMT's who serve their neighbors. These are the EMT's that go directly to Rescue calls usually getting there before the ambulance gets there.
These First Responders initial care while the ambulance comes from Essex or Richmond. They perform CPR and use AED's to restart a heart, take vital signs and provide care and comfort while they relay this information to the ambulance so they can prepare in route. This advance work often means ambulances can do a quicker turnaround and get you to the hospital faster.
Jericho and Underhill used to have 10-12 medical first responder volunteers.
Now there are just 2.
When no medical first responder is available you won't see an EMT until the ambulance reaches you - losing critical time in the case of heart attack or other treatable emergency.
The UJFD has a plan to train medical response EMT's in Jericho/Underhill making it easier for community members to train and then serve their neighbors. The plan is included in the budget to be voted on at Town Meeting on March 5th.
The UJFD is presenting the plan to Jericho citizens this Friday at 7pm at the Community Center. I hope you will attend this meeting so you can make an informed decision at Town Meeting. Or go to the UJFD website where you can read the entire proposal: https://www.ujfd.org/firstresponse
I am grateful, but not surprised, the UJFD is taking this initiative. After hearing about the plan, I hope you will feel the same way. This Friday , 7pm, Community Center
