Come be inspired!
Please join us for lunch on Wednesday, February 20 at 12PM and the second in a series of four film/discussion events surrounding Memory Loss, and ways in which the Creative Arts (Art, Movement/Dance, Music & Writing) can be a source of joy and expression for those living with Memory Loss/cognitive challenges.
The film screening is "Iris" with presentation and Q&A following with guest speakers, artist & writer Louella Richer, and Reflections Director and legacy writing coach, April LaJeunesse. Louella Richer works with a focus utilizing expressive writing in the wake of grief, trauma, and loss. Her work has touched the lives of caregivers & families of people living with memory loss and cognitive challenges. Numerous studies have shown that the practice of regular expressive writing exercises significantly increases the working memory capacity.
The film stars Judi Dench & Kate Winslet, and won numerous film awards. It is an intimate and poignant portrait of the unconventional marriage of philosopher and novelist Iris Murdoch and her literary critic husband John Bayley from their first encounter in the 1950s until her death of Alzheimer's disease in 1999. The film enables one to see and to feel the enduring spiritual connection that keeps Iris and John together, and records the astonishing breadth and resiliency of their love.
Event is free, but space is limited. Fully accessible.
