The VYO's Winter Concert "Depictions of a Dream"

Snow, snow, snow... Gotta love winter in Vermont! The VYO concert originally scheduled for January 20th is taking place Sunday, February 3rd at 3 pm at the Flynn Theater in Burlington. The Flynn Center is honoring tickets purchased for the January concert, and the Waterbury Library will be carpooling to the event, meeting in the back parking lot of the library at 1:45 on Sunday, the 3rd. Please call to both register for the concert and let us know whether you will be carpooling. 244-7036.

The VYO's "Depictions of a Dream" offers a musical tribute to Martin Luther King's life and legacy. Guest artist Counterpoint vocal ensemble presents a suite of songs associated with the Civil Rights movement. This concert serves as the official launch of the Vermont Humanities Council's 2019 Vermont Reads program which is a one-book-one-state reading program. Images and text from this year's inspired selection "March: Book One" by John Lewis, with Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell will be woven throughout the performance. The Waterbury Library has copies of the book for check out. The graphic novel March: Book One, is the first of a trilogy written by civil rights icon John Lewis, in collaboration with co-writer Andrew Aydin and award-winning graphic artist Nate Powell.

The Waterbury Library is planning numerous events from January through the spring, with the theme of Civil Rights, discourse, resistance, and graphic novels, the first being this field trip to the concert at the Flynn Theater.
