Racial Justice Discussion Group

Dear friends and neighbors:

The Mad River Valley Anti Racism Initiative (MRVARI) will be meeting this Sunday 1/27, from 6:30 to 8:00, at the Village Meeting House in Waitsfield (ground floor of the Waitsfield church).

This discussion group provides a forum for anyone who is interested in becoming more versed in discussing the vital yet oddly uncomfortable issue of racial inequity in our society. We will continue to identify and discuss the many layers of bias which we have all absorbed simply through growing up within a culture of taboo and imbalance.

Many of us acknowledge the problem of racism, yet don't feel empowered to do much about it. This can be especially true in a community like ours, where there are very few people of color. Maybe we feel like it's not our place, or that we might unintentionally make things worse. Yet learning about our own embedded assumptions is a powerful and much-needed first step in beginning the process of lending a hand.

The group meets every 4th Sunday at 6:30 pm. It has been running for several months now. We are committed to learning together in an open, respectful manner. You are welcome to attend even if you've never come before -- we would be delighted to welcome new people! Hope to see you there.
