When you were 9 years old, your biggest worry was who you were going to sit next to on the school bus or have lunch with at school. For a kid in foster care, normal worries are often amplified by their difficult circumstances and, very possibly, by past trauma.
It's a lot for a kid to handle. It's not always easy for the foster parents either.
That's why we look for people who are flexible, patient, accepting and kind. People who love a challenge and never give up.
The Family Services Division of the Department for Children and Families is looking for foster families for children of all ages and experiences, in communities across the state.
Could you provide a safe, loving home for a child in your community? Are you open to learning about how trauma affects children? Willing to learn positive ways to deal with any related behaviors?
If so, we'd love to hear from you!
To learn more, go to http://fostercare.vt.gov. If you want us to contact you, complete the form at http://dcf.vermont.gov/foster-care-inquiry.
You can also call your local Family Services District Office and ask to speak to the Resource Coordinator. http://dcf.vermont.gov/fsd/contact-us/districts
PS. Barre Family Services office would like you to be aware of an upcoming documentary showing!
From 6 - 8pm on February 11th at the Aldrich Public Library there will be a screening of "Ask Me Who I Am" a movie about becoming a foster parent.
KEEP LOCAL KIDS LOCAL.
